Challenge

Monitoring flood conditions in remote areas is challenging due to network limitations and labor-intensive processes. Key challenges include:

• Limited Network Coverage – Poor connectivity and electricity shortages make it difficult to transmit real-time data.
• Time & Labor-Intensive Monitoring – The remote location of Chorinsky-Klause Dam makes frequent on-site checks costly and inefficient.

Solution

A LoRaWAN®-enabled flood monitoring system that provides continuous real-time water level and precipitation data, allowing for early warning alerts and efficient flood risk management.

Deployment

Multiple sensors were installed around the dam to measure water levels and weather conditions. The system consists of:

• EM500-UDL Ultrasonic Distance/Level Sensor and EM500-SWL Submersible Water Level Sensor for upstream and downstream monitoring.
• UG67 Outdoor LoRaWAN® Gateway, ensuring stable communication between sensors and the cloud.
• Data is transmitted every 10 minutes and integrated into third-party platforms like Grafana for real-time visualization and analysis.
