IoT-Powered Weather Balloon Data Collection
Challenge
Weather balloons provide crucial atmospheric data at altitudes of 6 to 11 km, but transmitting this data back to ground stations is challenging due to long distances. Additionally, frequent launches require efficient power management for continuous operation.
Solution
A LoRaWAN®-enabled system that ensures long-range, real-time climate data transmission from weather balloons to ground stations, enabling accurate meteorological monitoring with low power consumption.
Deployment
A network of UG67 LoRaWAN® Outdoor Gateways is installed on 100-meter-high towers across multiple locations, ensuring seamless communication with weather balloons flying at altitudes of 8 to 10 km. Data is collected via LoRaWAN® sensors, transmitted over cellular networks (3G/4G) via MQTT, and stored in a cloud-based blockchain system for real-time access and analysis.
