IoT Automation for Smart Irrigation
Challenge
Large-scale farms face high water usage costs and inefficiencies due to manually operated irrigation systems. Additionally, connectivity issues in rural areas make it difficult to monitor and optimise irrigation remotely.
Solution
An IoT-powered automated irrigation system that tracks real-time environmental conditions—including light, carbon dioxide, soil moisture, and humidity—to optimise watering schedules and reduce water waste while improving crop yield.
Deployment
A UG67 LoRaWAN® gateway is installed 9 metres above ground, powered by a solar panel system for remote operation. It provides at least 9.5km line-of-sight coverage, ensuring seamless communication between multiple soil, water, and climate sensors. The data is transmitted via 4G to the AWS IoT platform, where farmers can monitor and control the system remotely through a web app or mobile app (Android & iOS).
